How to Use the Pregnancy Conception Calculator

Understanding Pregnancy Calculations

Pregnancy is typically calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), not from the date of conception. This is because the exact date of conception is often difficult to determine, while the LMP is usually known.

A full-term pregnancy is about 40 weeks (280 days) from the LMP. This calculator uses the standard Naegele's rule: due date = LMP + 1 year - 3 months + 7 days.

Key Pregnancy Milestones
  • First Trimester: Weeks 1-13 (conception to about 12 weeks)
  • Second Trimester: Weeks 14-27 (about 13 to 26 weeks)
  • Third Trimester: Weeks 28-40+ (about 27 weeks to birth)

Using the Calculator Effectively

To get the most accurate results from our pregnancy calculator:

  1. Select your calculation method (Last Period, Conception Date, or Due Date)
  2. Enter the relevant date based on your selected method
  3. Adjust your cycle length if different from the standard 28 days
  4. Click "Calculate Now" to see your personalized pregnancy timeline
Important: This calculator provides estimates based on standard medical calculations. Always consult with your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice and confirmation of dates through ultrasound.

Frequently Asked Questions

Due date calculations are estimates. Only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most births occur within two weeks before or after the estimated due date. Ultrasound measurements in early pregnancy can provide a more accurate due date.

If you don't know your LMP, you can use the conception date or due date method instead. If you're unsure about all dates, an early pregnancy ultrasound (usually performed between 6-9 weeks) can provide the most accurate dating.

The standard calculation assumes a 28-day cycle. If your cycle is longer or shorter, ovulation and conception may occur later or earlier in your cycle. Adjusting the cycle length in the calculator provides a more accurate estimation of your due date.
