Understanding Pregnancy Calculations

Pregnancy is typically calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), which is about two weeks before conception actually occurs. This method is used because it's often difficult to pinpoint the exact date of conception.

A full-term pregnancy is about 40 weeks from the LMP, which equals 280 days. However, only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most births occur between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy.

Important Notes

  • This calculator provides an estimate - your healthcare provider will give you a more accurate due date
  • If you have irregular cycles, the calculation might need adjustment
  • An ultrasound in early pregnancy can provide the most accurate dating
  • Always consult with your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice
